When sense and humour part

We tried to laugh

with a system of beliefs

reduced to an odious sneer;

to mockery and its elements

to a quarantine of degenerate nods

to typhus, cholera and dysentery

to dilated eyeballs which can

no longer nag, pad out

a meticulous cocoon

too readily substituted.
